After weeks in rough seas, The SA Agulhas has finally reached what will be Base Camp at Crown Bay.
Passing by huge icebergs and a colony of penguins there was no mistaking their new home in Antarctica.
The team are now off loading all the equipment onto the ice, and with help fom Eric Reynolds (shown below), Founder of Urban Space Management Ltd, the containers that we donated will be put onto the sledges that will help pull them behind the expedition, where they will be used as living quarters and a science laboratory
The 2000-mile journey across Antarctic continent has for many years been considered too perilous to try and the expedition's six-man "Ice Team" - led by Sir Ranulph Fiennes - will have to overcome one of earth's most hostile environments if they are to succeed, exposing themselves to temperatures dropping close to -90c and operating in near permanent darkness.
A winter traverse of the Antarctic is widely regarded as the last true remaining polar challenge and the expedition's success will reassert Britain's status as the world's greatest nation of explorers.
