30 Years of Urban Space Management

Urban Space Management is known for the economic renewal of run down or under utilised space for retail, workshop and community uses, in imaginative and cost effective ways, including the interim use of land pending development.

Acting as a consultant, developer, manager and investor, working with Central and Local Government and many construction and development organisations throughout the UK, the company brings a fresh and resourceful approach to problem sites, creating successful opportunities on a practical, cost-conscious, community-sensitive basis.

Urban Space Management is a hands on company, managing its own projects with a team of skilled and highly motivated people on each site, backed by a strong central team and is particularly well known for creating interesting and distinctive locations from scratch, including Camden Lock Market in 1973 and Spitalfields Old Fruit & Vegetable Market in 1991. We took over the failing Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre in 1991 and rejuvenated it. We built Gabriel’s Wharf and created Merton Abbey Mills - both in 1989. In 1994 we built the futuristic Market Hall in Swindon. We currently run projects in Docklands, Chelsea, Elephant & Castle, Greenwich, Merton, Swindon and Gravesend.

In addition to regular consultancy work the company has undertaken more than forty projects since 1971 with currently over 16 million visitors per year to sites for which Urban Space Management has been responsible.
